What is a Mala?

A mala is a simple string of prayer beads used in meditation to count mantras, prayers, or intentions. A full mala contains 108 counting beads, a half mala has 54 beads, and a wrist mala usually has 27 beads.  There are many variations on the style of mala, some include 104 beads in a pattern with 4 stop beads of a different type of stone, and each mala will have a guru bead above their tassel.  You can choose one stone for your mala or you may choose more.

The number 108 has a powerful significance in India where malas originate from. There are 108 letters in the Sanskrit alphabet. Vedic mathematicians measured the Sun's diameter to be 108 times larger than the diameter of the Earth, and measured the distance between the Sun and Earth to be 108 times the Sun's diameter. In the yogic tradition, we find 108 sacred texts of the Upanishads, 108 sacred holy sites in India, and 108 marma (acupressure-like) points on the body.

Your mala should have stones that are geared towards helping you with any intentions you are setting, to help strengthen you – by helping you focus, or helping to ground you.  The following is a list of some of the more common stones, the energies they help with and an approximate cost.

Pricing Information:

              8mm beads – 40” knotted mala base price $90
              6mm beads – 36” knotted mala base price $70
Additional cost - beads (prices vary)

About

Hi there! My name is Dannie and I am the founder creator and owner of D'z Threadz.  I've been creating jewelry ever since I can remember - going door to door in elementary school selling my friendship bracelets and water color bookmarks.  As I got older I added new techniques and skills to my talents, using natural elements and semi precious stones to create jewelry that not only looks good, but helps you feel good too.

I began making simple beaded bracelets and necklaces and recently discovered Malas.  These amazingly powerful tools of meditation are not only amazing tools that help heal others, they heal me too.  Each stone has it's only property allowing a fully unique and special one of a kind meditation tool.

Not being an amazing artist, and loving a bit of controlled chaos I discovered acrylic pour art several years ago and continue to find unique and fun ways to use this technique to create fun pieces.  From canvases to stash boxes and picture frames these one of a kind paintings are just the thing to spice up a room.

I continue to learn and add skills and techniques to my toolbox and hope you find something you just can't live without.
